Grüner Veltliner is one of nature’s more versatile grapes, equally enjoyable with vegetarian dishes, shellfish or even pork. This one, from historic vineyards near Krems, shows that classic white pepper note along with sugar snap peas and green beans, white peach and hints of nectarine. Complex intense and hugely enjoyable.

Exploring the Unique Geological Composition and Terroir of Ried Wachtberg

The Ried Wachtberg lies above the city centre of Krems on the eastern shoulder of the Kremser Kreuzberg. It sits about 250–400m above sea level. It is exposed to the southeast and east. In the west and in the very south, crystalline bedrock forms the subsoil, on top of which lie deposits from the ancient Paratethys sea; towards the east, the vineyard landscape is characterised by mighty loess terraces. The crystalline bedrock consists of gneiss with schistose sections.

Tasting
NOTES

Golden yellow, the nose is bright and lively and has good intensity. White peach and under-ripe nectarine leap from the glass, followed by vegetal aromas of sugar snap peas and green beans and spicy white pepper. The palate is fresh and vibrant with well balanced acidity.

Food
PAIRINGS

Roasted scallop with leek, fennel and a citrus beurre blanc sauce would complement this complex white wine. Alternatively, Asian style meat dishes or perhaps an asparagus dish.
