Des Romains

It’s rare to find single varietal high-classs wines from Bordeaux, but this Cabernet Franc from St. Émilion has something of the American about it. Intense dark flavours, rich and complex in structure, yet it’s a wine that pairs well with tomato sauce - surely a more European trait? Intriguing…

Forging Bordeaux Excellence

In 2016, Component Wine Company founder Michael Kennedy forged a partnership with Daniel Llose and Eric Boissenot to create single varietal, single lieu-dit wines from Bordeaux. Their 2020 Right Bank expression of Cabernet Franc is hyper classical in style, reflecting the excellent terroir from which it was created.

Terroir's Influence on Excellence

The vineyard site is a blend of gravely limestone and clay, which supplies a basic pH soil environment for the vines, which in turn, generates a higher acid in the finished wine along with structure and profile. The clay contributes to reduced vigour of the vine and allows the plant to focus on phenolic production. A stunning wine from the single most historic site from which they make wine - the site was likely planted as far back as the year A.D. 50 (almost 2,000 years old).

Tasting
NOTES

On the nose intense dark chocolate and sweet cherry fruit with vanilla and white pepper. Black fruit, plum, black pepper, black cherry on the palate with firm taninns. Rich, complex, structured, there’s a long finish where the black fruit and black pepper persist.

Food
PAIRINGS

Pork or veal cutlet in tomato sauce would be perfect matches. Alternatively, this would work really well with roast pigeon.
