The New World is brilliant at creating crowd pleasing wines such as this one from Australia. Exuberant red fruit, soft tannins and acidity which peeks through on the finish, with enough bitterness to provide an additional layer of complexity. Delicious with simply grilled meats or classic beef burger and fries.
Church Block was the first wine the late Greg Trott produced under the Wirra Wirra label back in 1972. He took the name from one of the original vineyards, which runs next to the small Bethany Church (est. 1854) across the road from Wirra Wirra’s century old ironstone cellars. Over five decades, the Church Block label has become a firm Australian favourite.
Intense; medicinal herbs, balsamic profile, exuberant red fruit, medium high intensity, a little liquorice in the background. The tannins are soft and the acidity peeks through at the end with a nice bitterness that provides another layer of complexity.
A flexible, enjoyable red and something of a New World crowd pleaser, so stick to simple grilled meats or serve with a classic beef burger and fries.
