Milla Cala

If you’ve splashed the cash on wagyu beef you need a stunning red to accompany it. This Bordeaux blend with a dash of Syrah is ideal. From high altitude, sustainably managed vineyards it has luscious aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, and graphite. Gorgeously elegant with velvet tannins and savoury spice.

The Philosophy of Holistic Winemaking

Alex and Carrie’s quest is the concept of holistic wines; purity, sustainability, exceptional quality and doing everything they can to assist the vines to naturally produce the very best grapes they can. Winemaker, Cristian Vallejo, then assists that exceptional fruit to naturally express itself in the wine. Milla Cala reveals the most perfect, fine expression and includes all the varieties on their terroir.

The Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structure, tension and character, while Merlot delivers a velvety mouthfeel with a silky edge. The Carmenère brings consistent, enjoyable body, while the acidity of the Cabernet Franc generates a symphonic movement of tannins which closes with the smoothness of Syrah.

Tasting
NOTES

Attractive ruby colour, very interesting on the nose; floral nuances of fynbos alluringly give way to luscious aromas of blackcurrant and black plum followed by nose cedar wood, graphite and pencil shavings. Nice mouthfeel; dried herbs elegant black fruits include blackberry and mulberry, aptly augmented by velvety round tannins and savoury spice.

Food
PAIRINGS

The high fat content of finely sliced wagyu beef from the grill would just melt on the palate with this wine. Rich meat casseroles and game in a rich sauce would also stand up to this wine well.
