Matteo's journey from humble beginnings to leading the wine programme at a prestigious 50 Best-ranked establishment is a testament to his passion, dedication and expertise in the world of wine.

Born in 1982, Bernardi's journey into the world of hospitality began at a remarkably young age. At just 13, he embarked on a path that would ultimately define his career. Each summer, he supported his studies by working in various restaurants across northern Italy, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the industry. 

Upon completing his high school education with a focus on accounting, Bernardi ventured into the field of business and economics at the University Ca’ Foscari in Venice. However, it wasn't long before his heart led him in a different direction – towards the world of wine.

At the age of 30, Bernardi made a life-altering decision to dedicate his career to oenology and hospitality, following his true passion. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a remarkable journey towards becoming a sommelier.

Bernardi's commitment to his craft led him to obtain his Association de la Sommellerie Internationale Sommelier Diploma, solidifying his expertise in the world of wine. He then embarked on a professional journey with the Alajmo Restaurant Group, a renowned culinary institution.

He began as an intern at Quadri, located in the iconic St. Mark's Square in Venice. Under the mentorship of industry veterans, he honed his skills and deepened his understanding of wine. 

In just four years, Bernardi's dedication and expertise propelled him to the position of head sommelier at Le Calandre Restaurant – a remarkable achievement that highlights his exceptional talent and unwavering commitment.

As the head sommelier at Le Calandre, Bernardi bears the responsibility of curating an impressive wine list that boasts over 1,800 different labels. His role extends beyond selection, encompassing training and support for the team of sommeliers within the restaurant group.

Bernardi's journey from a young enthusiast working summers in restaurants to the prestigious role he now holds at Le Calandre is a remarkable story of passion, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence. His impact on the world of wine and hospitality is profound, making him a true luminary in his field.
