Penfolds Bin 144 Yattarna Chardonnay

A wonderfully versatile Chardonnay from a gastronomic view point. Broad and creamy yet with precision acidity. Buttermilk, canned peaches, sweet apricots, lemon curd, lemon oil and milky oolong tea. Just as comfortable with simple salads or pasta, sushi and sashimi, grilled fish and seafood - the world is its oyster.

Penfolds Bin 144 Yattarna Chardonnay: An Icon in the Luxury Range

Sitting alongside wines such as Grange and St Henri in Penfolds luxury and icon range is Penfolds Bin 144 Yattarna Chardonnay. A wine of meticulous refinement, generations of Penfolds winemakers inspired the creation of this white wine that has gone on to earn a reputation as one of Australia’s finest.

Inception and Ambition: 1998 Launch of Yattarna

First launched in 1998 with the 1995 vintage, the aspiration and independence of mind across generations of Penfolds winemakers inspired the ambition to create a white wine that would set the standard for ultra-fine Australian Chardonnay.

Multi-regional Sourcing and Perfection: The Yattarna Philosophy

Like Grange, Yattarna embraces a multi-regional, merit-based sourcing philosophy, selectively sourcing only the very best Chardonnay fruit from cool-climate regions, combined with sophisticated winemaking. It took 144 trials before Yattarna was first released, such was the level of perfection sought. Yattarna reflects Penfolds patience and continued commitment to its original goal, its very name being drawn from local indigenous language, meaning ‘little by little, gradually’. The style continues to evolve, with each vintage providing the opportunity to further raise the quality bar.

Historic Milestone: 100 Points for the 2021 Vintage

The 2021 vintage was the first Yattarna wine to receive 100 points from a leading critic, this is a truly historic vintage and a milestone for Australian Chardonnay.

Tasting
NOTES

Buttermilk, fresh butter, canned peaches, sweet apricots, lemon curd, lemon oil and milky oolong tea. These follow through on the palate where the mouthfeel is broad and creamy and is underscored with precise acidity. Very pleasant and well-balanced with a persistent finish which hints at chalkiness adding a further layer of complexity.

Food
PAIRINGS

Extremely versatile gastronomically; both slightly lighter and slightly fuller fish dishes would work very well including sushi and sashimi. Just as good would be salads and creamy pasta dishes.
