Made with riesling from 80 year old vines grown on iron-rich slate soils in the 20ha monopole grand cru site of Karthäuserhofberg in the Ruwer sub-region of the Mosel, this wine is a testament to a remarkable vineyard and celebrates riesling in its purest form. Enjoy it with king crab.

Karhauserhofberg GG

Founded by Carthusian monks in 1335, Karthäuserhof is a Ruwer icon whose monopole Karthäuserhofberg slate slope yields mineral, ageworthy rieslings. The 2023 Grosses Gewächs emphasizes precision and salinity.

Karhäuserhofberg GG

The grapes in this bottling come mainly from the oldest plot in the Karthäuserhofberg called, Kronenberg, populated with 80 year old vines. Grapes are picked by hand, carefully brought to the cellar, briefly crunched and pressed. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts partial in oak barrels and stainless steel. After fermentation the wine is matured on the lees for 12 months.

Tasting
NOTES

A testament to a remarkable vineyard, this laser-focused Mosel riesling is a wine of incredible precision that celebrates riesling in its purest form. The nose is clean and bight with notes of apple, pear, peach, lemon oil and lime juice, along with white flowers and a distinct wet stone minerality. The palate is lifted by racy acidity, tension and freshness. With decades ahead of it, it's a wine of intense salinity with a textured mouthfeel and a long finish. Mind-blowing.

Food
PAIRINGS

This laser-focused Mosel riesling will marry well with sashimi in a lime and sesame dressing, or Hokkaido king crab with miso butter if you're feeling flush.
