Hailing from the Saint Guilhem le Desert sub-region of the Languedoc, this cabernet-dominant blend with a dash of pinot noir and merlot is made from vines with an average age of 40. The freshness of the 2016 vintage is on display here, with sweet black fruit wrapped around fine-grained tannins. Drink it with beef bourguignon.

Mas de Daumas Gassac's Rouge is a pioneering wine that helped redefine the region's potential for fine, ageworthy reds.

The 2016 vintage blends cabernet sauvignon with small proportions of pinot noir and merlo, sourced from cool, forest‑surrounded vineyards on glacial soils. Vinification follows a gentle, low‑intervention approach with long fermentations and maturation in lightly toasted barriques. The wine displays aromatic depth framed by refined tannins and lively acidity. Its structure is reminiscent of classic claret, while its aromatic wildness remains distinctly southern.

Mas de Daumas Gassac's philosophy emphasises biodiversity, low yields and respect for nature, resulting in a wine that evolves beautifully over time. The 2016 is poised, complex and energetic, offering both immediate charm and the promise of development.

Tasting
NOTES

A complex, cabernet-dominant blend, on the nose are a wild mix of spiced blackberries, ripe black plums, salty black olives and freshly crushed herbs. The vibrant flavours continue on the palate, where mulberries and dark chocolate mingle with sweet spices like cinnamon and clove. The tannins are grippy but have been polished with age. An opulent wine with aromatic intensity and lively acidity, it combines luscious fruit with savoury flavours of smoked meat and charcuterie.
