Proving that well-made Madeira is pretty much eternal, Justino's Malvasia 50 Years Old is a blend of several wines where the oldest component of the batch has been aged in barrels for over 75 years. Bottled in 2025, expect a heady mix of dried fruit and nut flavours that's crying out for a chocolate fondant.

Justino's is one of Madeira's oldest producers, tracing its origins to 1870 and recognised for holding one of the island's largest stocks of aged wine.

The 50‑Year Malvasia exemplifies the house's mastery of long‑term ageing. Malvasia is Madeira's sweetest noble grape, known for producing rich, velvety wines with intense oxidative complexity. Justino's ages its top wines in old oak casks using the traditional canteiro method, allowing gradual warming and slow concentration under the island's natural conditions.

Over decades, this develops layers of toffee, spice, dried fruits and caramelised citrus supported by Madeira's hallmark acidity. Justino's commitment to blending tradition with innovation – including experimenting with Sauternes casks and organic production – positions the 50‑Year Malvasia as both a tribute to heritage and a pinnacle of the estate's craftsmanship.

With malvasia known to produce Madeira's sweetest wines, this deep amber 50 year old expression has lashings of dried fruit and nut aromas: fruit cake, nougat, cinnamon, salted caramel, toasted hazelnuts and almonds spring forth on the nose. The same flavours are found on the palate alongside roasted coffee beans, dried mango and peach, and bitter orange. It's a sweet wine in the mouth with a long, lingering finish and plenty of life left in it.
