Marchesi di Barolo's Barolo Riserva represents the estate's most traditional and ageworthy expression of nebbiolo, crafted only in vintages deemed exceptional. The 2016 Riserva benefits from a long, even growing season, allowing for slow, complete ripening of tannins and aromatics.
The grapes for the production of Barolo Riserva come from the most suitable vineyards, where the soils are predominantly calcareous clay with variable percentages of chalk and quartz sand. The grapes are then rigorously harvested by hand and a selection of the best bunches is made in the vineyard. They are then destemmed and pressed and put into stainless steel tanks. The first part of the ageing takes place in vitrified concrete tanks, then it is aged for four years in traditional Slavonian oak barrels. It completes its refinement in the bottle for several months and is released eight years after the harvest, giving the wine the balance and the ageing potential typical of a Barolo Riserva.
Marchesi di Barolo's historical cellars and deep ties to Barolo's heritage are reflected in this Riserva – an archetype of traditional winemaking and a benchmark for the longevity and nobility of Nebbiolo from the 2016 vintage.
