Launched in 1997 to redefine the perception of Argentine fine wine, rather than a solo act, Iscay, meaning 'two' in Quechua, is a blend. Approachable in youth and worthy of ageing, it combines the power and black fruit intensity of malbec with the elegance and herbal freshness of cabernet franc. Match it with a tomahawk steak.

Trapiche, founded in 1883, is a cornerstone of Argentine wine, recognised for its longstanding focus on regional expression and innovation. Iscay represents one of its most premium lines, created to showcase the union of two varieties – malbec and cabernet franc – selected from top Uco Valley parcels.

The 2022 vintage reflects Trapiche's meticulous vineyard work: high-altitude sites, stony soils, and careful canopy management to preserve freshness and intensity. Fermentation occurs in small stainless-steel tanks with gentle extraction, followed by ageing in French oak to bring harmony and structure. Iscay's philosophy is about balance rather than power, emphasising elegance, aromatic complexity and fine-grained tannins.

The wine is a testament to Trapiche's evolution from a historic winery into a leading voice for modern, site-driven Argentine winemaking.

Tasting
NOTES

This brooding, fruit-driven malbec is a celebration of black fruit flavours, from blackberry and black plum to black cherry and blueberry, which sit alongside notes of violet, black pepper, vanilla and tobacco leaf. On the palate it's intense, concentrated and powerful, with the 30% of cabernet franc in the blend adding a welcome freshness, herbal hints and a green stalky spice. It's a big wine with grippy tannins, high alcohol a dark chocolate finish.
