Vallado Vinha da Granja is produced from a single very old vineyard planted on schist soils in 1929 with a blend of 32 indigenous varieties. Hailing from the Douro's Baixo Corgo sub-region, Quinta do Vallado Vinha da Granja 2022 is a wine of great complexity and concentration, and a masterclass in balance that will pair perfectly with roasted duck.

Vinha da Granja is one of Quinta do Vallado's most prized single-vineyard wines, drawn from a steep, mature parcel that reflects centuries of Douro winemaking tradition. Vallado, one of the region's oldest estates, has invested heavily in mapping and revitalising its historic vineyards to highlight their individuality.

Vinha da Granja is composed of an old-field blend dominated by touriga nacional and touriga franca, harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel or lagares depending on parcel character. The 2022 vintage is aged primarily in French oak, where slow maturation enhances structure and aromatic complexity.

This wine is known for its depth, precision and longevity – qualities rooted in the vineyard's low-yielding vines and stony schist soils. Vinha da Granja stands as a testament to Vallado's focus on terroir and its ambition to craft benchmark Douro reds.

NOTES

There's lots going on in this Portuguese red blend, which charms with its perfumed nose of sour cherry, raspberry and plum. Focused and fresh, concentrated but elegant, layers of complexity are built with notes of flowers and baking spices. There's an earthy, mineral undercurrent going on too via notes of mushroom and fresh earth. The palate is rich, intense and textural with a granite finish. A wine built for the long-haul and a masterclass in balance.
