Made from a blend of 50% cabernet franc and 50% merlot grown at Tenuta Poggio Casciano, just 10,000 bottles of Ruffino Alauda 2021 IGT Toscana were produced. Aged for two years in French oak, expect a medley of lush red and black fruit flavours that are made for meat dishes like wild boar pappardelle.

Ruffino, founded in 1877 in Tuscany, blends deep regional heritage with a modern, internationally recognised portfolio.

Alauda represents one of its more contemporary projects, designed to showcase the potential of Tuscan terroir through a blend of merlot and cabernet franc. Grapes are sourced from hillside vineyards with rocky, well-drained soils that promote concentration. The 2021 vintage undergoes fermentation in stainless steel, followed by extended ageing in French oak to build structure and aromatic complexity.

Alauda is rich, expressive and polished, highlighting the estate's evolution from traditional Chianti producer to a multifaceted winery capable of delivering modern, ageworthy Super Tuscan styles.

Tasting
NOTES

Bursting with ripe red and lush black fruits, dried herbs and baking spices on the nose, with macerated blackberries, plums and cherries mingling with scorched earth, tobacco, sage, vanilla, clove and dark chocolate, the oak is evident on the palate. Dry and medium-bodied, with smooth sweet tannins and an earthy finish, the lush fruit flavours of the nose are echoed on the intense and concentrated palate, which shows great balance between fruit, tannins, texture and acidity.

This 50/50 merlot and cabernet franc mash-up would work wonderfully with wild boar pappardelle, beef Rossini, Grana Padano risotto, or smoked venison with sautéed mushrooms.
