Made in Texas Hill County in a vineyard originally planted with roussanne and mourvèdre, Uplift Vineyard Aglianico 2023 makes a hero of the Southern Italian red variety, showcasing its elegant side. Big and bold, but lifted by lively acidity, it's a celebration of plush fruit and sweet spice flavours that's made for Texan barbecue.

Aglianico limestone-influenced terrain

Aglianico, known for its firm tannins and natural acidity, has become one of the estate's most successful plantings. The 2023 vintage benefits from careful canopy shading and early morning harvesting to maintain freshness in Texas' intense heat. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel with restrained extraction, followed by maturation in neutral oak to soften the grape's structural edges without masking its savoury core.

Uplift Vineyard's philosophy focuses on authenticity and terroir, crafting wines that reflect both variety and the resilience of Texas highlands viticulture. The Aglianico showcases deep fruit, earthy undertones and a mineral profile that speaks to the region's rocky soils.

NOTES

Kicking off with a very concentrated, fruit-driven nose of candied dark fruit, ripe black cherries, stewed plums and blackberries, there are savoury notes of leather, bell pepper and tomato leaf in the mix too, along with floral hints. The palate is big and bold, with lashings of dark chocolate, vanilla, cedar, eucalyptus and balsamic. Rich and dense with robust tannins, the wine is balanced out by high acidity and has a long, mineral finish.
