Arianna Occhipinti has become one of Sicily's most influential winemakers, celebrated for championing the terroir of the Vittoria hills with authenticity and sensitivity. Growing up among the region's vineyards, she founded her estate in her early twenties with a vision centred on organic farming, low intervention and honest expressions of place.
Grotte Alte is her flagship Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico, drawn from older parcels on the limestone-rich Altopiano Ibleo. The 2021 vintage blends frappato and nero d'avola in equal harmony – Frappato contributing lift and aromatic finesse, nero d'avola providing structure and depth. Fermentation uses native yeasts in concrete, followed by long macerations to extract fine tannins without heaviness. Ageing takes place in large, neutral Slavonian oak for gentle evolution.
Grotte Alte reflects Occhipinti's belief in purity and nuance: a wine of elegance, savoury Mediterranean detail, and a quiet, confident expression of Vittoria's historic landscape.
