Made in an amphitheatre-shaped terrace plot in the village of El Anejón in Ribera del Duero, with production limited to exceptional years, tempranillo dominates Pago de Carraovejas El Anejon 2021, along with a dash of cabernet and merlot, creating a wine brimming with black fruit and sweet spices that's crying out for meat.

El Anejon

El Anejón is a single‑vineyard wine grown on steep terraces overlooking the iconic Carraovejas valley, where tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon and merlot are planted in limestone and marl soils.

El Anejon

The 2021 vintage reflects the site's dramatic elevation changes and sun exposure, resulting in grapes of precision and aromatic lift. After hand selection and small‑batch vinification, the wine matures in a combination of new and second‑use French oak, achieving harmony between fruit intensity and savoury complexity.

El Anejón is known for its elegance and architectural precision, deep expressiveness and beautiful balance. The 2021 is a compelling release, showcasing the vineyard's singular character and its capacity for ageing.

Tasting
NOTES

We're in black fruit territory here. The nose is bursting with notes of black currant, blackberry, black cherry, chocolate and sweet baking spices. There's also a sweet tobacco note and hints of herbs like rosemary and thyme. The same flavours are mirrored on the palate, which is concentrated and powerful with soft tannins that enhance the drinking experience. With refreshing acidity balancing out its heft, the finish is long and laced with sweet oak spices.

Food
PAIRINGS

A wine as big as this demands meat: lamb cutlets, slow cooked short ribs, an Argentinian ribeye, or a braised leg of wild boar would all do the trick.
