Sweden-born Joakim Blomster has travelled the world to improve his language skills, broaden his horizons and increase his knowledge on wine regions across the globe.

The journey
Born in the small city of Luleå in Sweden, Blomster studied gastronomy and wine at his local university. Inspired by his wine professor, he sought work in local restaurants to cover the cost of tasting fine wines. Upon graduating he moved to South Africa, working as a sommelier at Le Petite Colombe in Franschhoek. His next move was to the UK and The Fat Duck by Heston Blumenthal, part of 50 Best's Best of the Best hall of fame. Here, he gained a deeper understanding of wine, improved discipline and realised the importance of curiosity. Having risen to the rank of assistant head sommelier, he moved back to Sweden in 2020.

Home soil
Blomster then set his sights on Daniel Berlin Krog – a restaurant in Skåne Tranås, set deep in the Swedish countryside. Here, he met Daniel, the restaurant's namesake, with whom he works at Vyn today. After the closure of Daniel Berlin Krog, Blomster relocated to Copenhagen where he joined the team at Kong Hans Kaelder, delving into their deep classic list, networking with oenophiles from across the globe and eventually leaving as head sommelier.
