Made from riesling grown in the Velkopavlovicka sub-region of Moravia in the Czech Republic, up to 10% of botrytised grapes are used in the cuvée, which is aged for 10 months in Slavonian oak. The result is a rich expression of riesling brimming with tropical fruit and honeyed stone fruit flavours. Pair it with langoustines in a citrus emulsion.

Stará Hora is one of Gurdau's most prized hillside vineyards, defined by calcareous loess over sandstone and a sheltered microclimate that supports slow, even ripening. The Riesling from this site is celebrated for its precision, minerality and ageing potential.

Winemaking emphasises minimal intervention, with careful hand harvesting, gentle pressing and cool fermentation in neutral Slavonian oak barrels to protect aromatics. Gurdau works with multiple riesling clones sourced from top European regions such as the Rheingau and Wachau, contributing nuance and depth. Stará Hora illustrates the estate's belief in terroir transparency, offering a refined, structured style reflective of Moravia's best vineyard sites.

Tasting
NOTES

With its glorious golden hue, this riesling is full of aromatic intensity with its honeyed stone fruit and floral flavour profile and hint of flint. Tinned peach, nectarine and yellow plum mingle with chamomile and apple blossom. Showing varietal purity, the palate is off-dry and balanced by lively acidity that keeps things fresh. Flavours of roasted pineapple, candied orange rind and preserved lemon are enhanced by the addition of oak, which adds roundness and weight.
