A low intervention, amphora-aged skin contact wine, Shumi Winery and Estate Kisi Qvevri Iberiuli 2022 is made with the kisi grape planted in mineral-rich soils in Georgia's Kakheti PDO. The result is a complex wine humming with flavours of chamomile, dried apricot and ginger that's made for a lamb tagine with saffron rice.

Kisi Qvevri Iberiuli

Shumi Winery, located in Georgia's historic Kakheti region, is dedicated to preserving and advancing the country's rich winemaking heritage. The estate is renowned for its extensive grape library and commitment to traditional qvevri methods.

Shumi Vineyard

The Kisi Qvevri Iberiuli 2022 is crafted from the native kisi variety, fermented and aged in buried clay vessels that encourage natural temperature control and extended skin contact. This ancient technique builds structure, complexity and a distinctive amber hue.

Shumi's work marries deep cultural respect with modern vineyard management, ensuring healthy fruit and balanced ripeness. The resulting wine displays layers of dried apricot, tea leaf, spice and firm tannic grip – hallmarks of artisanal Georgian amber wine. Iberiuli exemplifies Shumi's mission to champion indigenous grapes and traditional craftsmanship while producing expressive, contemporary wines that resonate internationally.

Tasting
NOTES

On the nose of this orange wine you'll find aromatic aromas of apple and orange peel, dried apricot, white pepper, canned peach and chamomile. Interesting and complex, the palate offers similar flavours, along with cinnamon, turmeric and ginger. Its tastes like a steeped chamomile tea and has fine, savoury tannins, a well-defined but pleasant texture, some bitterness from the skins, and a spicy finish. Amphora ageing adds depth and personality to this excellent food wine.
